The legend say that two deities from Hawaii - volcano goddess Pele and god Kamapua'a - struck a deal to make the west side of Big Island dry and its east side wet. The story's short version say that after a battle nobody don't won, so the pair divided the island in two parts, with Pele taking the western half and Kamapua'a the eastern - this is the reason why the island's climate is so different.
