On the northern shore

On the northern shore of Kauai you'll discover some of the most spectacular scenery on the planet. There's the Na Pali coast, whose cliffs rise 4,000 feet above the ocean. Also, the north shore is home to town of Hanalei, one of the earliest areas settled by the ancient voyagers in the Pacific Ocean.

On the eastern shore

The eastern side, called also the "Coconut coast", is rich in variety. It is an ideal area to experience the beauty of Kauai, especially if you visit the Wailua area; this area has many sacred sites and other unique points of Hawaiian culture. Kayaking or boating up the Wailua river is a favorite activity for vacationers and locals alike.
Lihue is Kauai's center for business, transportation and has a few very good all-inclusive beach resorts; here tourists can also explore Kauai Museum. On the southern shore

This side of Kauai is also a wealth of historical and scenic sites; this area is home for the National Tropical Botanical Garden. An interesting place is also the Spouting Horn, whose natural lava tube formations creates one of island's more spectacular sights.

On the western shore

West Kauai is a remarkable blend of natural wonders and Hawaiian cultural sites. This part don't feature all-inclusive beach resorts, offering a "wilder" experience of Hawaii islands. Waimea Canyon is just the beginning. In Waimea is settled the monument dedicated to Captain Cook, where British Captain James Cook first landed in Hawaii in 1778.
