On the northern shore
On the northern shore of Kauai tourists discover some of the most spectacular scenery on the planet! There's the Na Pali coast, whose cliffs rise 4,000 feet above the ocean! Also, the north shore is home to town of Hanalei, one of the earliest areas settled by the ancient voyagers in the Pacific Ocean.
On the eastern shore
The eastern shore, called also the "Coconut coast", has a rich natural variety. It's the ideal area to enjoy at best the historical vestiges and the natural beauty of Kauai, especially in the Wailua area, where are many sacred sites and other unique landmarks of Hawaiian culture. Kayaking or boating up the Wailua river is a favorite activity for vacationers and locals alike.
Lihue is center for business in Kauai and there tourists can visit the Kauai Museum. This area is also a great spot for recreational vacation activities on the beach. The beautiful Kalapaki Beach is considered the best place for swimming and sun-bathing. Not far away are located the Kauai Lagoons, hosting two golf courses, 40 acres of freshwater lagoons and a wildlife sanctuary!
On the southern shore
The southern shore of Kauai is rich in diversity and has excellent beaches for swimming and snorkeling. This side of Kauai is also filled with historical and scenic sites, being home to the National Tropical Botanical Garden. An interesting place is also the Spouting Horn, whose natural lava tube formations create one of the most spectacular sights on the island!
On the western shore
West Kauai is a remarkable blend of natural beauties and Hawaiian cultural sites. This part offers a "wilder" vacation experience of Hawaii Islands. In the Waimea Canyon is settled the monument dedicated to Captain Cook - the first European landed in Hawaii in 1778.
